About our Community & Non-Profit efforts... Our mission is to combat food insecurity and strengthen communities by providing access to seeds, vegetable plants, and garden education. We empower individuals, families, schools, and senior citizens to grow their own fresh produce, promote healthy eating, and build sustainable gardening practices through hands-on, community-based programs.
CURRENT PROJECTS & INITIATIVES:
We currently offer 4 initiatives in our area that serve community members.
Our Sharing the Seed Program provides free vegetable plants to low-income individuals and families, senior citizens, and community gardens throughout our community. Through this initiative, we aim to increase access to fresh, healthy food while encouraging gardening, self-sufficiency, and community engagement. By sharing vegetable plants, we empower recipients to grow their own produce, reduce food costs, and enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of gardening.
Our Grow A Row Initiative provides garden boxes, soil, and vegetable plants to schools and nonprofit organizations. Through this initiative, we aim to educate and encourage gardening, promote healthy eating habits, and provide participants with hands-on learning experiences. By growing their own food, individuals gain valuable gardening skills, develop a deeper appreciation for where food comes from, and experience the rewards of nurturing plants from seed to harvest.
The Seeds & Share Initiative is our community outreach and education initiative designed to engage the public at programs, workshops, and vendor events. Through this program, our organization sets up interactive booths and participates as guest speakers or workshop leaders to share practical gardening knowledge with community members of all ages. In addition to education, we actively support food access by giving away free vegetable seeds or starter plants. These giveaways help participants immediately apply what they have learned and take the first step toward growing their own food.
Our Sharing the Harvest: Senior Produce Giveaway program serves senior citizens in our community by providing free bags of fresh produce each month throughout the growing season. The produce is harvested from our gardens and shared with seniors to help increase access to fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables. During the holiday season, participants also receive a special holiday bundle featuring fall and winter vegetables, along with homemade preserves and baked goods prepared from our spring and summer harvests. Through this initiative, we strive to nourish our seniors, promote healthy eating, and share the blessings of the harvest while fostering a sense of community care and connection.
